This blog will be an attempt to record my travels in South America this year. I’m spending 6 weeks in Argentina, Bolivia and Peru – finishing with a trek to Machu Picchu. This will be the furthest I’ve flown, but I will be met by a friendly face – because Katy’s already out there! We’ll be travelling together before we part company in Lima and she flies on to Colombia.<\/p>\n

What am I looking forward to? Jungle, desert, surf, salt flats, volcanoes, glaciers and Inca ruins. And probably a few llamas. Hosteling will be a new experience too (I imagine it’s a bit different from the Lake District YHA experiences of my teens…) Also trekking, trains, long-distance buses and reed boats. I’ll be going up high too – the Salar de Uyuni salt flats are 3650 meters above sea level, and Apacheta pass in the Andes is at 4590m. I hope we’re both fit enough for the challenge!<\/p>\n
